CNC Machined Electronics Mounts & Standoffs

Electronics mounts are small parts with unforgiving specs: board-hole patterns that must line up perfectly, controlled heights for airflow and clearance, and threads that survive repeated assembly. We machine motherboard mounts to a tolerance of ±0.001 mm on critical seating faces, along with custom PCB standoffs, mounting brackets, DIN-rail adapters, and precision spacers, from one-off prototypes to bar-fed production runs.

What is a CNC machined electronics mounts?

An electronics mount is any machined part that positions and secures a printed circuit board or module inside an enclosure: motherboard standoffs, PCB spacers, mounting rails, stud plates, and board mounting brackets. Custom CNC machined standoffs are chosen over off-the-shelf hardware when the design needs non-standard heights, mixed thread types, controlled electrical grounding (or isolation), tight height tolerance for thermal-pad or heat-sink compression, or a hole pattern matched to a custom board. Machined mounts hold position and height tolerances that stamped or molded PCB mounting hardware cannot.

Common materials

Brass C360

The classic standoff material: free-cutting, conductive for grounding paths, and corrosion-resistant with nickel plating.

Aluminum 6061-T6

For chassis mounts and rails where weight matters; Type II anodize adds an insulating, cosmetic surface.

Stainless Steel 303 / 316L

When mounts carry structural load or live in corrosive or wash-down environments.

POM / Delrin

Insulating standoffs and spacers where electrical isolation from the chassis is required.

Typical tolerance

±0.005 mm

Height and hole-position are the critical features: standoff heights are commonly held to ±0.005 mm for even thermal-pad compression, and ±0.001 mm is available on critical seating faces.

CNC turning

Standoffs and spacers are turned parts; bar-fed turning keeps small diameters accurate at volume.

3-axis milling

Mounting rails, stud plates, and bracket-style mounts with precise hole patterns.

Threading

Threads from M2 up, plus 4-40 / 6-32 UNC common in board hardware, male, female, or both ends.

Plating & anodizing

Nickel plating for conductive, corrosion-resistant surfaces; anodize or black oxide for cosmetics and isolation.

Design tips that lower cost

Decide grounding or isolation first

A standoff either bonds the board's ground plane to the chassis (bare brass, nickel plate) or isolates it (POM, anodized aluminum). Mixing this up is a common source of EMI surprises, call out the intent on the drawing.

Use standard threads unless forced otherwise

M3 and 6-32 cover most board hardware and keep assembly tooling standard. Custom threads are machinable but complicate repair and sourcing later.

Tolerance the height, not the diameter

Board flatness and thermal-pad compression depend on standoff height consistency across the pattern. Height typically deserves the tight callout; outer diameter rarely does.

Add a hex or knurl for assembly

A hex body or knurled section lets assemblers torque the standoff without marring it. Specify across-flats size to match your standard drivers.

Can you hold ±0.001 mm on motherboard mounts?

Our standard tolerance on mount heights and critical faces is ±0.005 mm, and ±0.001 mm is available on critical seating features where the design justifies it. Every batch is CMM-inspected on request.

Brass, aluminum, or plastic standoffs, which should I choose?

Brass when you want a grounded, corrosion-resistant standoff (the default). Aluminum when weight matters or the mount is part of a larger machined rail. POM / Delrin when the board must be electrically isolated from the chassis.

Do you have a minimum order for custom standoffs?

No minimum order quantity. Prototype quantities of a custom-height standoff are welcome, and unit price falls quickly at volume because standoffs run efficiently on bar-fed turning centres.

Can you match an existing board's mounting pattern?

Yes. Send a drawing of the hole pattern and we machine rails or stud plates to match, hole-position tolerance of ±0.02 mm across the pattern is routine.

Can you machine heat-sink mounts and thermal spacers?

Yes. Heat-sink standoffs and thermal spacers are the same family of height-critical turned hardware: ±0.005 mm height consistency across the set keeps thermal-pad compression even over the whole board. Brass and aluminum are standard; copper is available where the mount itself is part of the thermal path.
